The collections
In 2011, the City of Deauville received a major donation of works by André Hambourg (1909-1999) from his wife, Nicole Hambourg.With 3831 works to date, including part of the artist's private collection of works by Marie Laurencin, Léonard Foujita, Maurice Utrillo and others, this collection is the starting point for the creation of a museum.
To complete its collections, the Town of Deauville supports a policy of acquiring works from the 19th and 20th centuries, in line with themes close to its heart such as the history of Deauville, horses, Impressionism, figurative and non-figurative art from the 1920s-1960s...and also benefits from generous donations.
Enriched by over 800 acquisitions, the collections include works by major artists who have left their mark on the history of art, such as Eugène Boudin, Paul Signac, Raoul Dufy, Maurice Denis, Maurice de Vlaminck and Moïse Kisling, as well as 185 works from the "Peindre en Normandie" collection.Peindre en Normandie" (Painting in Normandy), deposited for a period of 10 years, enabling paintings by Claude Monet, Auguste Renoir, Théodore Géricault, Gustave Courbet and many others to grace the walls of the Franciscaines.
Les Franciscaines also boasts a photographic collection of over 1,468 prints, featuring both the great names in the history of French photography (Jacques Henri Lartigue, Robert Capa, Robert Doisneau, Henri Cartier Bresson etc.) and contemporary creations in a wide range of media.), but also contemporary creations as part of the Planche(s) Contact festival. Each year, the city hosts artists-in-residence whose work is then added to the museum's collections, such as prints by David Armstrong, Peter Lindbergh, Sarah Moon, Massimo Vitali, Simon Procter and others.
Five themes in one place
Five themes, in line with Deauville's identity, host and structure the collections of the media library and museum in five universes: these themes are deployed on two floors around the Cloister, in the form of a ribbon of knowledge whose loops house spaces for reading, individual work and research, projection, listening and exchange. Each theme has its own universe, expressed in the space through specific color schemes and scenographic features.

Offerte par Nicole Hambourg, épouse de l’artiste, à la Ville de Deauville dès 2011, la collection Nicole et André Hambourg rassemble environ 4 500 œuvres, constituées de 538 peintures de l’artiste, plus de 3000 dessins, ainsi qu’une grande partie de la collection privée du couple.
