Fabien Mary updates a certain conception of jazz orchestration, the ones in which arrangers like Benny Golson, Jimmy Heath, Thad Jones, Gigi Gryce, Bill Holman or Teddy Charles excelled in the heart of the 1950s, combining fluidity of melodic lines, elegance of counterpoint and harmonic sophistication, but never at the expense of swing.
