André Hambourg
Just as Pop Art moved from Europe to the United States to find new inspiration, this exhibition accompanies André Hambourg from France to New York where he renews and enriches his creativity.
For the first time, a collection of drawings from the 3,600 pieces in the collection is presented to the public, showing the artist's ability to "sketch" the world around him. The discovery of the excessiveness of the buildings, the recurrence of the subjects represented (skyscrapers, Statue of Liberty, Grand Army Plaza, etc.) echo the series of Andy Warhol or Roy Lichtenstein.
New York embodies the parallel between two currents of figurative creation, coexisting simultaneously in the late 1960s and 1970s. The "Big Apple" fed the Pop Art movement as much as it did the creation of Hamburg and will therefore naturally find its development on the two levels of the Hamburg Franciscan Museum.
