The dawn of the American century 1919-1944
The Caen Memorial commemorates the 80th anniversary of the Normandy Landings with an exhibition exploring the cultural, social and political history of the United States from 1919 to 1944. It focuses on the life of the American people, from the triumphant return of the soldiers after the First World War to the Normandy Landings. Structured in chronological chapters, it also brings the era to life through the medium of film, shedding light on both its dark and bright sides.
The exhibition's two curators revisit America's complex and creative history, highlighting the tensions and
and crises of this pivotal period.
Kléber Arhoul is General Director of the Mémorial de Caen and general curator of the exhibition, while Clément Fabre, the exhibition's scientific curator, is an agrégé in history, member of the scientific committee of the magazine L'Histoire and editor of the magazine Faire l'Histoire on Arte.
