Valérie Belin, the things between them
Guided tour of the exhibition Valérie Belin, the things between them.
Les Franciscaines presents Les choses entre elles, a monographic exhibition of Valérie Belin's work. Some sixty photographs chosen from among the most emblematic series of her work, including five from her latest Cover Girls series, are presented publicly for the first time.
Portraits of live models or dummy models, mirrors, objects photographed as bodies, bodies photographed as objects and, more recently, still lifes, vanitas and fictional characters make up an iconographic repertoire in which the staging of "things" seems to be the real issue in Valérie Belin's photographs.
Without following a strictly chronological thread, the exhibition shows the evolution of the artist's work, which, exploring the limits of photography in its relationship with reality, draws us into the making of images - and which, moving from black & white to color and from silver to digital, appropriates the technological mutations of photography as if in search of a new ontology.
